Houghton Ancestor Report for Charlotte Roulstone

The following is an ancestor report for Charlotte Victoria Newark Roulstone. It goes back 11 generations to sometime in the 16 hundredths.

If you start with Charlotte you will see that her lineage number (LNUM) is 1. To find her father double her LNUM, to get LNUM 2, that is Simon Roulstone. To find her mother add 1 to the your LNUM, ie.3. To find her Grandfather double simon's LNUM, ie. 4 and you find Victor. Add 1 to find Simon's mother, ie. 5, Gweneth. By doubling and adding 1 you can identify the ancestors.

You will notice that shown is only part of Charlotte's ancestors. If you want to find her Grandparents on her mother's side then you would have to double her mother's LNUM and get 6 only to find that it is not in the file.

The AGL numbers are the generation levels. These records are reasonably correct down to AGL, -4. Before that generation data are more uncertain. Dates followed by a query mark are uncertain.
Dates taken from gravestones can be very misleading. Data obtained from church records can be misleading too. For instance it is the baptising date that is recorded. The child could have been born long before that time.

Data from Census records are often wrong on birth dates. People could claim to be older than they were to be allowed to rent accommodation. Some may claim to be younger than they are out of vanity. Some simply did not know. Ann Littlewood is one example with confusing dates. We have used her baptising date as her birth date simply because our system has no way of recording baptising dates.

William Underwood b. 1767 is uncertain as regards date of death. There were a large number of Underwoods in Asfordby at that time. There is no way of telling which of these Williams is the one we were looking for.

Another William Underwood b. 1682, 3 generations earlier, got his first son when he was 12 years old! There must be something wrong with the dates, but we have not been able to check it.

Marriages terminated by the death of one of the partners are marked with a star like for Mary Ann Underwood (b. 1878) who was "Married 1894 for 46* years". That marriage was terminated by her death in 1940. Her mother also named Ann Littlewood "Married 1875 in Melton Mowbray? for 26* years". She had her marriage terminated by her husband's death in 1901.
