Further to messages posted last year. William Arthur (or Arthur William) ROULSTON, butcher, married Mary Jane NORTON in Burton on Trent in 1883. So far I've traced two daughters: Mary Elizabeth (born Oct 1884, & tragically burned to death Oct 1887) and Hannah Maria, born Jun 1886. Both daughters born in Uxbridge St, Burton on Trent, where their father was a butcher.
It has taken me a long time, but I've finally traced Mary Jane in 1901 - indexed as RADSTON! - and living in Somerset, where she was a cook for an Anglican clergyman & family from Birmingham. She is shown as a widow.
The GRO Death indexes have a listing for a William Arthur ROULSTON, 36, in Birmingham, Jun Qtr 1896. This will be my chap. No wonder I can't find them in Burton in 1891!! Can anybody please give me a reference for them in the 1891 census for Birmingham please?
Last query - from an index to the 'Burton Chronicle', 13 Oct 1887: Mary Elizabeth ROULSTON age 3, burned to death, 140 Uxbridge Street. I live in New Zealand so can't access this newspaper. Is anybody able to get me a copy, please? (The poor little girl was my Dad's 1st cousin). All expenses refunded.
Many thanks
